Associated Press: Second Life an Online First for Many Companies

Nice article today via Alex Veiga at the Associated Press.¬† The cool thing about the AP and other wire services is that you get to watch the same article get syndicated out.¬† This article on MSNBC has the goofy picture of me below — most of the others are just the article sans mug shot.

Another interesting piece¬† from David Kirkpatrick at Fortune via CNN Money in which Linden Lab CTO estimates that there are now 65 ancillary businesses like Millions of Us employing 350 people and serving real world corporations with projects totalling $10 million under development.¬†¬† I happen to think his estimate of the dollar value of projects underway is low, but it’s cool to see the overall size of the market.

How are you? We are running an Earth Day in Second Life. I wonder if you know how to reach AP with this story… if you like, maybe you would like to cover the story too (or instead of AP :–)).

My SL name is PlanetThoughts Raymaker, and quite a few organizations, scientists, and policy activists have joined my two groups in SL.

If you are interested, please let me know. And, Reuters is NOT interested, so I would love to talk with AP, if you have the right contact. Thanks.

    To David Alexander:
Like many talking about Second Life you’ve mentioned an event or place. What you failed to include was the SWURL (Synthetic World URL). It’s great that so many people are talking about so many cool things happening in Second Life but only rarely does anyone post the location of the event. So, all of that great press you’re getting is much less effective since noone will be able to visit your event or location. By the way, my company is FUSE/ideas, my SL name is Rize Yongho. You can follow this link to visit our office in Second Life:

    “SWURL (Synthetic World URL).”
never heard of that regarding SL… SLurl ya mean?

Nah, SLurl would be specifically for Second Life. SWURL would be a URL for any virtual world. I doubt anyone at WOW would refer to links to their locations as Second Life URLs!
