Intel Ignites OCC!
Today we’ll be launching a project that I’m proud of in so many ways. In partnership with Intel’s Embedded Systems Group, DM2 and Orange County Choppers, we’ve imported the American Chopper experience to Second Life. Here’s the back story:
Intel commissioned the OCC guys to build a bike that celebrated 30 years of Intel being in the embedded systems business. The TV episode that chronicles that build will air sometime in May on TLC. The OCC guys have kept the design under lock and key for the past several months and will today unveil it today at 3PM PST in San Jose at the Intel Embedded Systems Conference. We will open the Second Life Island at the same time.
“Intel Ignites OCC” is the name of the island and it’s a really interesting example of how you can blend TV, celebrities, corporate sponsorship and SL-native experiences. In the workshop, users can build their own custom bike and then take it with them all over SL. These bikes (free for a limited time) are pretty special, lots and lots of work went into them — Enjoy!

Oh yeah, big congrats to Hilary, Gurgon, Lucky, Chris P, Bill, Bodhi, Josh, My, Annette and Munchflower.

[...] So, back to what we care about: this Orange County Choppers bike. Where is it, can I drive it, and how does it handle? Will it make me think of Intel’s “quad-core raw power”, or just of sim lag? According to the Millions of Us blog the bike was unveiled on the 3rd and the island “Intel Ignites OOC” opened at the same time. I checked it out, and it turns out there’s a bonus: you can make your own copy of the bike and take it with you! Finally somebody in PR figures it out: be interactive or be gone! [...]

At the heart of this 3-sim build, including the previously launched Intel OCC (Intel’s partnership sim with Orange County Choppers) and Intel Software Network, is what we like to refer to as “the journey.” Should you decide to partake in this journey to the depths of Intel Island, you will encounter a visual feast complete with flying laptops, a gigantic Intel Core 2 Duo chip, and lava ‚Äì yes, lava. The visual feast isn’t quite over when you’ve explored the build. From videos showing creative ways of re-purposing your “obsolete pc” to the hip Intel “Multiply” ads done Second Life style, there is plenty to see on the 6 different screens placed throughout the sim. Just exploring this underground build can provide quite an experience, but aside from the eye candy, the sim is full of interactivity. Grab an Intel jetpack and embark on a quest to find the Intel Core 2 Duo chip halves to power your pack to the max. Or, if you want to know about the latest and greatest Intel has to offer, connect to Intel using the conference phones and download [...]
