CNN Money: Sun & Intel Releasing Products Together

Published on Monday, January 22nd, 2007 by Chris

There is lots of news today about two of our clients working together, Sun and Intel, for Sun x86 server sales. This is yet another data point indicating that Intel has retaken the lead in CPU architecture with its Core 2 Duo and new Xeon line of processors. I’ve been a fan of Sun hardware going back to my first summer-job at Xerox where I worked exclusively on Sun hardware. Now I just need to get my hands on some of the new gear!

Sun and an Open Source Java Q&A in Second Life

Published on Friday, November 10th, 2006 by Chris

I’m really excited to announce that Sun’s Tim Bray and Simon Phipps alongside Mark Shuttleworth will be hosting a Q&A session in the Second Life Sun Pavilion http://tinyurl.com/m338r this coming Monday, November 13th, at 1:00 PM PST. The Q&A session is to follow an announcement that morning by Sun via webcast and other media channels. We will be broadcasting the webcast at the Sun Pavilion to kick off the Q&A session.

A bit more about the hosts, as these guys have really interesting backgrounds: Tim Bray is Sun’s Director of Web Technologies and a co-inventor of XML and Simon Phipps is Sun’s Chief Open Source Officer. Joining them will be Mark Shuttleworth, the Founder of the Ubuntu project (and one of my favorite Linux distributions), and odd tidbit, the version of Linux I used to run (and test) the Second Life Linux Alpha when I worked at Linden.

We hope to see you at the event. Please RSVP via Second Life Instant Message to Ted Millionsofus or myself (Chris Millionsofus) if you are planning on attending.

A couple people at Sun are also blogging about the event.

I’ll add more as I come across it.

Millions of Us Presents. . . . SUN Microsystems

Published on Monday, October 9th, 2006 by Reuben

This is a really exciting project of ours that I’m so happyto see coming to fruition. Working with our good friends at BITE Communications, we’ll be producing the first press conference of a Fortune 500 Company in Second Life.

When we began working on this project months ago I had no idea that it would head in such a cool direction. Here are some of the cool parts. First of all, the conference will be led by SUN’s Chief Researcher John Gage, and will also feature their Chief Gaming Officer Chris Mellisinos.

So John Gage is apparently the person who actually coined SUN’s famous mantra, “The Network is the Computer”. While this catch-phrase was propethic in 1982, it’ll be really interesting to hear his thoughts on Second Life and Web 2.0 at a time when the sentiment behind the quote is actually becoming a reality.

The event starts at 10 am on Tuesday October 10th on the sim “SUN Pavilion”. Here’s a slurl to the event. Repeaters and a voice stream will be available, but if you’d like to attend in person (or rather, in avatar), please send an IM to Rodica Millionsofus or email rodica@millionsofus.com.
