Published on Friday, October 27th, 2006 by reubenOur own Rodica Buzescu was just featured in this article in the Boston Globe.

The article covers a variety of subjects including the CyberONE course at Harvard and a broad array of philanthropic and business related initiatives in Second Life. Here’s a little excerpt:
“Rodica Buzescu of Somerville, who graduated from Harvard in June, is a project manager for Millions of Us, a California-based start-up that helps companies establish a presence in Second Life.
Millions of Us joins a coterie of companies and individuals making a living developing objects and experiences in Second Life. It’s created virtual Toyotas and built the virtual loft where Warner Bros. invited avatars to preview Regina Spektor’s latest album a month before its release.”
Go Rodica!

Published on Tuesday, October 24th, 2006 by ReubenLaura Wegner of ad agency Ralston360 came by our new office in Sausalito about a month ago and shot this interview with me that does a great job of shining a very bright light on what an immense dork I look like on camera. Also how often I say “Um” and “Right”. Oh well, enjoy the laugh. She shows off some of our work and also some cool builds by our friends at Rivers Run Red and Aimee Weber Studios.

This was a fun interview to do — it’s always interesting how you can say so much and what ends up in the article is the phrase “digital tumbleweed”. Read it here.

Listen! Millions of Us Launches Warner Brothers Records artist Talib Kweli
Published on Thursday, October 19th, 2006 by ReubenThis is a really cool one. I’ve loved Talib Kweli since the early days when he used to rhyme with Mos Def — now we’ve launched a build fo his new album, “Listen”. It’s a huge brownstone in true Bedford Stuyvesant- style with turntables, video, pool table, bar, and on and on and on.

Great work on the build by Lordfly Digiridoo with the impeccable and inspired urban stylings of BushidoBrown Hightower.
The best part of this project came when we were struggling to get Talib Kweli’s avatar approved — Lucky Millionsofus had produced a great avatar but we couldn’t quite get the bagginess of the clothing sufficient to satisfy Kweli. His manager had seen BushidoBrown and said,, we want to look like that guy. Bushido’s response? “They can’t look like me!” The ultimate virtual world vs. real world celebrity smackdown.
Here’s a slurl to the build - enjoy! Also co-located on Spin Martin’s Saijo City.
Millions of Us presents. . . . .Wired Magazine’s Second Life HQ
Published on Tuesday, October 17th, 2006 by ReubenFollowing up on the recent lecture by Wired’s Editor in Chief, Chris Anderson, that we did with Hamlet, we’re opening the gates to Wired’s SL HQ located here. The build is the result of some great and inventive building by MOU’s own Minxeh Volos, with scripting/effects by Falldeaf Weeks. We were inspired by that feeling one gets when first looking at a computer’s motherboard — the surprise at how the structures that move information so closely resemble a miniature city. We thought it would be cool to create a build where humans/avatars could move around like bits and electrons. After all, in SL, we’re all just data anyway.
Join us for the opening party this Saturday, October 21st, from 4-7 pm SLT.

Versu Has Now Left the Building!
Published on Sunday, October 15th, 2006 by ReubenShe’s done! With a little help from her friends, she built 2 blocks of New York, the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Yellow Cabs, the list goes on and on. Now for some sleep. Thanks go out to everyone who watched, cheered, supported and otherwise made this the incredible experience it was — without you all it wouldn’t have been possible. Special thanks to Netro our streaming video providers who held our backs when traffic exploded on Friday, to Philip and the amazing folks at Liquid Agency who produced and ran the event, to Rohit Bhargava of OgilvyOne PR who brought us into the mix, the folks at Datavision for hosting it and of course, to Intel.
